EMDR Therapy in NY & NJ

Feel less overwhelmed. Respond differently. Finally move forward.

You're someone who likes crossing things off a to-do list, and wish you could do the same with the problems bringing you to therapy.

If you’re someone who feels anxious more often than you’d like—and keeps thinking, “I understand this… so why does it still feel this way?”—you might need something that goes deeper than talk therapy. And if you like the instant gratification of accomplishing tasks (crossing off those to-do’s), EMDR might be for you.

EMDR helps your brain process what’s been keeping you stuck so you can actually feel different. Instead of talking about the same things week after week without any real change, let's get to the root of the issue so you can move forward.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You feel anxious or on edge—even when nothing is technically “wrong”

  • You’ve done therapy before and can explain your patterns… but your reactions still feel the same (and that’s frustrating)

  • You want therapy to feel structured and purposeful—not like you’re just talking and hoping it helps

  • You tend to be hard on yourself—overthinking, over-responsible, or blaming yourself more than you’d like

  • A part of you is wondering: Is there a way to actually get unstuck?

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR (which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful (and honestly, pretty fascinating) approach to therapy that helps your brain reprocess experiences that feel stuck.

Instead of just talking about what happened, EMDR works with how your brain has stored those experiences—so they no longer feel as intense, overwhelming, or present in your day-to-day life.

It might sound a little “out there” at first—but it’s actually a well-researched, structured modality that can create meaningful change more quickly than traditional talk therapy.

It helps your brain do what it was meant to do:

process, integrate, and move forward.

How EMDR works…

EMDR is structured and intentional—so you’re not just talking and hoping something shifts. You’ll know what we’re doing and why.

We start by getting clear on what’s still getting activated for you—whether that’s specific memories, patterns, or moments where your reactions feel bigger than you want them to be.

From there, we target those experiences directly.

During sessions, you’ll briefly focus on them while using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping). This helps your brain reprocess what’s been feeling stuck—so it stops showing up with the same intensity.

You’re always in control of the pace. If something feels like too much, we slow it down. Nothing is forced.

As things begin to shift, clients often notice:

  • The same situations don’t hit as hard as they used to

  • They’re not getting pulled into the same emotional spirals

  • They can pause, think more clearly, and respond differently

  • Their baseline anxiety starts to feel more manageable

This isn’t just insight—it’s a shift you can feel in real time.

EMDR therapy can help you…

  • Feel a noticeable reduction in the intensity of your emotions—like the volume has been turned down

  • Experience relief faster than you might expect from traditional talk therapy

  • Respond to situations with more clarity instead of overwhelm

  • Spend less time stuck in anxious loops or overthinking

  • Feel more in control of your reactions and day-to-day functioning

  • Move through your life with a greater sense of ease and satisfaction

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

(some more FAQs are HERE)

Do I need to know anything else before starting EMDR?

Nope! No advance preparation is needed- we will go through all of the phases together.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail for EMDR to work?

No. EMDR does not require you to retell or relive painful experiences. You don’t need perfect memories, and you stay in full control throughout the process. EMDR works by helping your brain reprocess what’s stuck — so the emotional intensity fades, and you can finally feel calmer, lighter, and more grounded.

Does EMDR work online?

Yes — online EMDR is evidence-supported and just as effective as in-person sessions. Many women actually feel safer and more open when they can do trauma work from home. I use secure, structured tools to guide bilateral stimulation, making virtual EMDR a powerful option for women across New York and New Jersey who want consistent, flexible therapy without travel.

What if we try EMDR and I don’t like it?

That is TOTALLY OKAY. Some of my clients love EMDR and some don’t. It is quite different from traditional therapy, as it follows a specific script and structure. A lot of people like how quickly they feel symptom improvement. We will check in throughout the process and you can always stop at any time.

What are your fees and do you take insurance?

My current rates are listed on the Fees page. Therapy is an investment in rebuilding your foundation, reducing anxiety, healing trauma, and creating a life that finally fits. I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not accept insurance directly. However, many clients receive partial reimbursement through their insurance’s out-of-network benefits.
I can provide monthly superbills to submit for reimbursement. I can also help you understand your benefits if needed.
