Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy in NY & NJ
Understand your inner world, calm your anxiety at its core & rebuild from the inside out.
If you’re an anxious, childfree woman who feels pulled in a hundred directions internally — one part of you pushing, another part exhausted, another part terrified of slowing down — IFS therapy helps make sense of all of it without judging any of it.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach that views anxiety, burnout, self-criticism, and emotional overwhelm not as flaws, but as protective parts that developed for a reason.
I offer online IFS therapy for women in New York and New Jersey, specializing in anxious, childfree women rebuilding after trauma, burnout, identity shifts, or sudden life changes.
What Is Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy?
IFS therapy is based on a simple but powerful idea:
You are not broken.
You are made up of parts.
Each part of you has a role — even the anxious one, the perfectionist, the overthinker, the part that shuts down, or the part that keeps pushing no matter the cost.
In IFS therapy, we don’t try to eliminate these parts.
We get curious about them.
We learn:
why they exist
what they’re protecting you from
what they need now
how to lead your inner system with more calm, clarity, and self-trust
At the core of IFS is Self — the grounded, compassionate, steady part of you that can hold everything without being overwhelmed.
Who IFS Therapy Is For
IFS therapy is especially helpful if you:
feel internally conflicted or “at war with yourself”
struggle with anxiety, rumination, or chronic overthinking
carry a harsh inner critic
feel burned out from holding everything together
experience emotional swings you can’t explain logically
have done talk therapy but still feel stuck
are rebuilding after a breakup, loss, trauma, or sudden change
are navigating identity shifts as a childfree woman
feel disconnected from your needs or intuition
Many of the women I work with are capable, self-aware, and outwardly “fine” — but internally exhausted.
IFS therapy helps you stop fighting yourself and start working with your internal world instead.
How IFS Therapy Helps with Anxiety and Trauma
Anxiety often comes from parts of you that learned to stay alert to danger — emotionally, relationally, or internally.
IFS helps by:
slowing down anxious spirals
creating internal safety
understanding what anxiety is protecting you from
reducing shame around emotional reactions
helping your nervous system settle
addressing trauma gently, without overwhelm
Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?”
IFS asks, “What happened — and who learned they had to protect me?”
This shift alone can be deeply relieving.
What IFS Therapy Looks Like in Our Work Together
1. We build safety and trust inside your system.
Before going anywhere difficult, we help your nervous system feel grounded and supported.
2. We identify and get to know your parts.
Anxious parts. Critical parts. Avoidant parts. Exhausted parts.
Each one has a story — and we listen.
3. We help you access Self-leadership.
This is the calm, curious, compassionate place within you that can hold complexity without being hijacked by it.
4. We gently heal wounded parts.
Trauma and pain are approached with care — at your pace and with full permission of all your other parts and protectors — without forcing, reliving, or rehashing.
5. We rebuild your internal foundation.
As your inner system becomes more regulated and connected, life outside therapy often feels clearer and more manageable.
Why IFS Works Especially Well for Anxious, Childfree Women
Childfree women often carry unique internal pressures:
high self-expectations
identity questions
grief that isn’t always acknowledged
societal messaging about “shoulds”
responsibility without relief
chronic emotional labor
IFS therapy helps:
untangle internalized expectations
reduce guilt and self-blame
support identity clarity
create internal permission to rest
build self-trust and confidence
move forward without abandoning yourself
IFS doesn’t ask you to become someone else.
It helps you fully understand all the parts that make up your unique human personhood.

IFS therapy is effective for:

You don’t need a single “big trauma” for IFS to help.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy used for?
IFS therapy is commonly used to treat anxiety, trauma, burnout, depression, self-criticism, and emotional overwhelm. It’s especially helpful for people who feel internally conflicted or stuck in repeating patterns. IFS helps you understand and heal the different “parts” of you that developed to protect you, allowing more calm, clarity, and self-trust to emerge.
2. Do I need to understand my “parts” before starting IFS therapy?
Not at all. You don’t need any prior knowledge or special language. In IFS therapy, we go slowly and collaboratively. I help you notice your internal experiences in a way that feels safe and natural — there’s no pressure to do it “right.” Curiosity is enough.
3. How is IFS therapy different from traditional talk therapy?
Traditional talk therapy often focuses on insight and problem-solving. IFS therapy goes deeper by working directly with the emotional and protective parts of you that hold anxiety, fear, or pain. Instead of trying to override your reactions, IFS helps you understand them, which often leads to more lasting change and emotional relief.
4. Is IFS therapy effective for anxiety and trauma?
Yes. IFS is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach that is highly effective for anxiety and trauma. It works gently with your nervous system, helping reduce reactivity and emotional overwhelm without forcing you to relive painful experiences. Many clients find it especially helpful when anxiety feels chronic or deeply rooted.
5. What does an IFS therapy session actually look like?
IFS sessions are conversational, reflective, and paced to your comfort level. We might slow down, notice what’s happening internally, and get curious about different parts of you — like anxious parts, critical parts, or exhausted parts. You remain present and in control the entire time. Sessions often feel grounding, insightful, and surprisingly relieving.
6. Can IFS therapy be done online?
Yes. Online IFS therapy is highly effective and widely practiced. Many clients feel more comfortable and regulated doing parts work from their own space. I offer virtual IFS therapy for women in New York and New Jersey, making it accessible and flexible.
7. Is IFS therapy a good fit for childfree women?
Absolutely. IFS therapy is especially supportive for childfree women navigating anxiety, identity questions, grief, societal pressure, or burnout. It provides space to explore internalized expectations, conflicting emotions, and unspoken losses — without judgment — while helping you rebuild a life that feels aligned and authentic.
8. How long does IFS therapy take?
IFS therapy isn’t about rushing or forcing change. Some clients notice shifts within a few sessions, while others choose to work longer-term, especially when healing trauma or rebuilding after major life changes. We regularly check in and adjust the pace based on your needs.Understand your inner world, calm anxiety, and rebuild from the inside out.Do I need to know anything else before starting IFS therapy?
Nope! No advance preparation is needed- we will go through all of the phases together.
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail for IFS to work?
No. EMDR does not require you to retell or relive painful experiences. You don’t need perfect memories, and you stay in full control throughout the process. EMDR works by helping your brain reprocess what’s stuck — so the emotional intensity fades, and you can finally feel calmer, lighter, and more grounded.
Does EMDR work online?
Yes — online EMDR is evidence-supported and just as effective as in-person sessions. Many women actually feel safer and more open when they can do trauma work from home. I use secure, structured tools to guide bilateral stimulation, making virtual EMDR a powerful option for women across New York and New Jersey who want consistent, flexible therapy without travel.
What if we try EMDR and I don’t like it?
That is TOTALLY OKAY. Some of my clients love EMDR and some don’t. It is quite different from traditional therapy, as it follows a specific script and structure. A lot of people like how quickly they feel symptom improvement. We will check in throughout the process and you can always stop at any time.
What are your fees and do you take insurance?
My current rates are listed on the Fees page. Therapy is an investment in rebuilding your foundation, reducing anxiety, healing trauma, and creating a life that finally fits. I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not accept insurance directly. However, many clients receive partial reimbursement through their insurance’s out-of-network benefits.
I can provide monthly superbills to submit for reimbursement. I can also help you understand your benefits if needed.
